The taimen is also known as the common taimen. However, it is anything but "common" as a large carnivorous fish. The taimen's legendary size and elusive nature once led to rumors that it was the authentic "lake cryptid." However, like most cryptid legends, without concrete evidence, the taimen's cyrptid status remains speculative.
