The blue trim parrotfish has its unique beak-like mouth to thank for being able to tear through hard coral as if they were potato chips.
The ingested coral calcium generally cannot be digested and will be excreted afterward. Over time, these form beautiful "white sand beaches" on the seafloor or coastline.
