What a catch! My first flat rock crab! It sure is flat.
Its "hands" are hairless to better scrape algae off rocks.

The flat rock crab got its name for its flat appearance.
Some scholars believe it evolved smooth claws to better scrape algae off reefs.
As the crab matures and grows in strength, these smooth claws become deadly weapons for hunting small fish and invertebrates.
