==Introduction==
The Genshin Impact Wiki has some specific rulesets regarding the usage and romanization of Korean text in articles, which may be different from other wikis, communities, or official standardization methods. Please read this page carefully before adding any sort of Korean text or romanization.

==Template==
The template {{T|Lang}} must be used when adding Korean text and romanization (and can also support other languages like Chinese and Japanese). The shorthand template {{T|ko}} is preferred unless the {{F|mini}} option is not desired.

==Usage==
The usage of Korean on the Genshin Impact Wiki is much more limited than Chinese, or even Japanese. Korean can be used in the following applications:
* The Korean part of Other Language sections
* The names of Korean voice actors
* Trivia sections or Lore pages for explaining etymology
* Korean Voice-Over pages of characters

Korean should not be used in the following applications:
* Names of characters, factions, locations, etc.
* Essentially everywhere else other than extreme or edge exceptions

==Capitalization==
* The romanization should follow the capitalization of the corresponding English text, whether it is in title case or sentence case.

==Romanization==
Korean romanizations can be automatically generated using the template {{T|ko-rm}}. ''However'', this template is unable to capture occasional exceptions and in such cases, manual romanizations should be provided instead.

Ultimately, all Korean text should be romanized according to the following rules.

The romanization system we use is '''Revised Romanization of Korean''', with the following modifications and/or enforcements of existing rules:
* Sound changes and assimilation '''are''' observed in given names, but unassimilated romanizations can be provided in a hover note. For example: {{ko|종려|{{tt|Jongnyeo|spelled: Jongryeo}}}}.
** This may be generated automatically by adding {{F|//}} on either side of the given name. For example, {{T|ko-rm|//종려//|_Y_=1}}.
* {{ko|ㅎ}} (''hieut'') in the final position before {{ko|ㅇ}} (''ieung'') in initial position should be romanized as ''h'' instead of nothing.
* Ambiguous syllabic boundaries should be marked with an apostrophe ({{F|'}}), whereas semantic boundaries should be marked with a hyphen-minus ({{F|-}})

The following lists the rules for transcription for each Korean Hangul ''jamo'' ({{ko|{{tt|자모|字母}}}}, letter).

===Special Provisions===
The Revised Romanization transcribes certain phonetic changes that occur with combinations of the ending consonant of a character and the initial consonant of the next like ''Hangu'''k''''' → ''Hangu'''g'''eo''. These significant changes occur (highlighted in yellow):

===Yethangul===
Generally, there should be virtually no reason to come across {{Lang|yethangul|ko=옛한글|ko_rm=yethangeul}} when editing Genshin Impact Wiki or playing Genshin Impact. However, if a case where yethangul needs to be used arises, romanize all yethangul directly how they are orthographically spelled without any sound changes and special provisions or transcription positional differences.

==Formatting==
===Punctuation===
* Convert punctuation in the romanization as follows:
::{| class="wikitable"
! Korean Transcript !! Romanization
|-
| {{ko|{{F|・}}}} || {{F| - }}<ref group="Note">This is a hyphen-minus (the symbol widely available on most keyboards). A space should be placed on either side of the hyphen.</ref>

Template documentation
Note: parts of or the entire template might not be visible without values provided.
This template uses Module:Ko-rm, a script written in Lua.

Template to automate the romanization of Korean text based on the Petit Planet Wiki:Korean guidelines.

Syntax

[edit source]

{{ko-rm|Korean text|capi = include to capitalize everything|sent = include to use sentence case}}

  • ^ will capitalize the following syllable.
  • _ will decapitalize the following syllable.
Hyphenation and spacing corrections
  • < > can be added to insert a space into the romanization. This should only be used when a space is needed around punctuation. Do not use this to break words into two. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|…으윽…< >흠.|sent = 1}} yields: ...Eueuk... Heum.
  • <-> can be added to insert a hyphen into the romanization. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|나<->의}} yields: na-ui
  • <・: > can be used instead of just ・ to romanize it as a space instead of a spaced hyphen.
    • {{ko-rm|야곱<・: >머스크|capi = 1}} yields: Yagop Meoseukeu
Irregular pronunciation corrections
  • nn — {{ko-rm|Korean text|nn = position of the syllable containing ᄅ}} will transcribe the specified intersyllabic "ᆫᄅ" sequence as nn instead of the default ll. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|생산량|nn = 3}} yields: saengsannyang
  • ni — {{ko-rm|Korean text|ni = position of the syllable containing 이/야/여/요/유}} will add the "ㄴ" to the specified syllable for the "ㄴ addition" rule. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|옛이야기|ni = 2}} yields: yenniyagi
  • bcred — {{ko-rm|Korean text|bcred = position of the syllable containing the batchim to reduce}} will reduce the consonant cluster in the specified syllable or neutralize the batchim in the specified syllable prior to consonant assimilation. This can also be used to block palatalization. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|값어치|bcred = 1}} yields: gabeochi
    • {{ko-rm|맞흥정|bcred = 1}} yields: matheungjeong
    • {{ko-rm|곧이어|bcred = 1}} yields: godieo
  • When counting positions, spaces are included in the count but not punctuation.
  • If multiple of each irregularity exists, their positions may be listed with commas. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|생산량, 곧이어, 생산량, 곧이어|nn = 3,11|bcred = 5,13}} yields: saengsannyang, godieo, saengsannyang, godieo
Given names
  • Surround any part of the Korean text with // on both sides for given names to romanize with the exceptions noted in the guidelines. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|//종려//의 운명의 별}} yields: Jongnyeo-ui unmyeong'ui byeol
Numbers
  • The reading of numbers can be added into the original text in the format <number:reading in Hangul>. For example:
    • {{ko-rm|<11:열한>시 <11:십일>분}} yields: yeolhansi sibilbun

Examples

[edit source]
Default

{{ko-rm|「외눈박이 월드」}} yields: "oenunbagi woldeu"

Forced capitalization

{{ko-rm|방^랑자}} yields: bangNangja

Title case

{{ko-rm|새벽의 어둠|capi = 1}} yields: Saebyeogui Eodum
{{ko-rm|…으윽…< >흠, 유쾌하지 않은 일들이 생각났어|capi = 1}} yields: ...Eueuk... Heum, Yukwaehaji Aneun Ildeuri Saenggangnasseo
{{ko-rm|1 = 속세를 비웃는 백 가지 {{tt|자태|姿態}}자태ⓘ姿態{{Sino|ko}}‍[※]ⓘSino-Korean reading of Chinese name|capi = 1}} yields: Soksereul Biunneun Baek Gaji 姿態‍Sino-Korean Reading Of Chinese Name

Sentence case

{{ko-rm|…으윽…흠, 유쾌하지 않은 일들이 생각났어|sent = 1}} yields: ...Eueuk...Heum, yukwaehaji aneun ildeuri saenggangnasseo
{{ko-rm|1 = 속세를 비웃는 백 가지 {{tt|자태|姿態}}자태ⓘ姿態{{Sino|ko}}‍[※]ⓘSino-Korean reading of Chinese name|sent = 1}} yields: Soksereul biunneun baek gaji 姿態‍Sino-Korean reading of Chinese name
