Creature

Creatures are a Game System in Petit Planet.

Overview

Creatures are collectibles that can be found across a Planet Tender's Planette.

They are divided into 3 types, being Aquatic Creatures, Land Creaturess, and Shore-Dwellers, with each one requiring a different Tool to catch.

All available creatures are then further sub-divided into Qualities:

  • Common: The most common.
  • Rare: Rarer, but can still be relatively common.
  • Stellar: Rarest, with some awarding Loomix Footprints upon capture.

Creatures also have a size-range, which is species-specific. Upon a successful capture of a creature, depending on the size that was caught, the creature will be given a Star Rating:

  • ★: The caught creature is of a small size.
  • ★★: The caught creature is of median size.
  • ★★★: The caught creature is of a large size.

Both the Quality and Star-Rating affect the sale-price of the creature at Shops such as Glenn's Goods.

On top of the above, certain creatures may be exclusive to certain Galaxies, or may only be found while on a Starsea Voyage on certain Islets. Furthermore, some creatures may only appear at a specific time of day, or during specific weather.

Upon capturing a creature for the first time, its details will then be displayed in the MomentFolio. It can then be offered to Mors at the Omni-Gallery, which will put that creature on display in its allotted zone, and will also unlock its Omnipedia entry in the MomentFolio.

Aquatic Creatures

Aquatic Creatures are caught with the Fishing Rod Fishing Rod.

They are divided into Freshwater Fish, and Saltwater Fish, with the former appearing in inland Rivers and Lakes, while the latter appear in the Coastal Waters of a Planette or Islet.

Unlike both Insects and Shore-Dwellers, which can be seen as their specific 3D models, Fish are instead shown as silhouettes, with each silhouette-type corresponding to a size-range of fish.

All Freshwater Fish and Gray-quality Saltwater Fish have the same capture method, whereby they will nibble a couple of times on the Fishing Rod line, then will bite-down and can be caught straight away. Purple or Gold quality Saltwater Fish will instead nibble a few times, then after biting down, will need to be reeled in slowly, while making sure that the line does not snap.

Land Creatures

Land Creatures are caught with the Insect Net Insect Net.

Although they are divided into types based on their species, most insects can be found all over a Planette or Islet, outside of the beach and Intertidal Zone, with spawn locations being shared amongst various types.

The type of an insect acts more as an indicator of how they move around, or what time of day they might be found at, rather than them having a specific capture mechanic or specific location, because unlike Fish or Shore-Dwellers, which do have varying capture mechanics, most insects can be approached in any way and caught with a simple swipe of the Insect Net, although some might be easier to capture when approached slowly.

Shore-Dwellers

Shore-Dwellers are caught with the Shellfish Tongs Shellfish Tongs.

Unlike Insects and Fish, which can be found in multiple places across a Planette or Islet, Shore-Dwellers are solely found along the beach in the shallows of the Intertidal Zone.

They are divided into multiple types, based on the species of the creature, with each type having a specific capture type:

  • Shellfish: Except the Pearl Oyster, these shore-dwellers do not move around much, and can be caught easily.
  • Sea Urchin (Type): Are also fairly stationary, only being moved around by the waves.
  • Crabs: Can be found roaming around the Intertidal Zone, or can be found when picking up Broken Seashell or Coral Branch. They will scuttle away when approached quickly, so are best approached slowly.
  • Shrimp: Much the same as crabs, although cannot be found underneath beach flotsam.
  • Lobsters: Hide themselves away inside the rocky outcrops when approached. They can be caught when they eventually poke out from their hiding place.
  • Crayfish: Can further be separated into 2 mechanics:
    • True Lobster: Will move around the beach slowly, darting away and becoming uncatchable if approached too quickly. They need to be approached slowly with pauses if they front-up.
    • For other Crayfish, notably those of Gold quality, they will spin-around, looking out for Planet Tenders. If spotted, they will charge at and knock the player over. They need to be grabbed while in their charge, or approached very carefully.
