To store more energy, Goliath beetle larvae preferprotein-rich foods. Their indiscriminate appetite for protein means they'll readily accept fishing bait and even pet food like dog kibble.
However, once they metamorphose into adult beetles, they develop an exclusive "sweet tooth" for nectar, fruits, and the like.
