What a catch! My first Elephant Hawk Moth!
The elephant hawk moth gets its name from its caterpillar, which looks just like a tiny elephant's trunk!
Elephant Hawk Moth is a Land Creature in Petit Planet.
It can be found in the Omni-Gallery in the Cave Insects section.
Omnipedia
Scientific Name: Deilephila elpenor
The Deilephila elpenor is commonly known as the elephant hawk moth.
The word "elephant" might seem unrelated to its vibrant appearance at first glance, but it's because "elephant" is actually associated with its larval form.
While feeding, the larva stretches its body forward like an elephant's trunk instead of moving their entire body forward. Some theories suggest this unique motion is a way to conserve energy - Colloquially known as being "lazy."
