Grass carp are named for their herbivorous habits, but this diet isn't persistent throughout its life cycle.
During their juvenile stage, grass carp primarily feed on invertebrates.
It's only when they grow to about the size of a bottle cap that they fully transition to a plant-based diet.
So, don't be surprised if you see a grass carp eating meat — It might just be reminiscing about its babyhood.
