The Deilephila elpenor is commonly known as the elephant hawk moth.
The word "elephant" might seem unrelated to its vibrant appearance at first glance, but it's because "elephant" is actually associated with its larval form.
While feeding, the larva stretches its body forward like an elephant's trunk instead of moving their entire body forward. Some theories suggest this unique motion is a way to conserve energy - Colloquially known as being "lazy."
